Just read an article saying Google is in talks with Wal-Mart to distribute a cheap computer, probably in the $100-$200 range. The kicker is the computer will have an operating system designed by Google!!

This would be interesting. They are going head to head with Microsoft again. I am not sure if it will be an all inclusive operating system, with programs included. Google has made a big push as of late to get people to install the Mozilla browser, which of course competes with IE ( I use Firefox).

They did design a better search engine, so can they do it again with the operating system? I would assume it would be along the lines of a linux system, probably based off of the open source code, but changed to call it their own. But can they make money off of this, or is this just a way to get at Microsoft?

They have 2-3 years worth of wiggle room from stock holders and the likes due to the huge profits they generate from text search. This allows them to try a few different strategies to make more money, and even lose money in the process. People originally thought when Yahoo launched the YPN ads, it would cut into Adsense/Adwords monies. Have you seen the ads by Yahoo? Many of these are not even topic specific. This is the key to Google: Their search, including ads, are very keyword specific. This is why they are king!!

I’ll keep reading to find out the actual launch dates. After all, I am in the market for a new computer
