Is Adsense A Dying Breed?
Google Adsense was at one time the cream of the crop for making money online. When it first launched, there were a handfull of people to spam the search engnines with their “Made For Adsense” sites and get filthy rich. Then, they started selling their books on how to do the same. Before long, everyone was thinking they could market online, throw up a crappy website, and start making some coin.
Because of this surge of adsense sites, the earnings are going away. You basically had a problem that Google itself created. They were enabling these sites to go up at an alarming rate, with no real controls. Before long, advertisers were getting an alarming amount of clicks which were not converting. Dig a little deeper, and you will find the “Made For Adsense” sites which were causing the clicks.
TIP #1: Content clicks, that is, clicks from a google adsense ad displayed on someone elses website do not convert.
Webmasters and business owners complained about this and Google finally pulled the switch. You can now choose to not have your site advertised on content pages. You can select to have it only on search results.
Search results would be anyone who is looking for something, goes to Google.com, and types in what they are looking for. These results that come up, along with the ads above and on the side, are search results ads. These will convert for you much better than content ads.
Because of this change, you will start to see many of the Adsense gurus switch to something else or start selling something else. I personally still have a google adsense ad on many of my pages, but it is to only diversify. I use other affiliate programs as well. The best part of adsense is the ease of use. Just plug in the code, and there is the optimized and relevant ad.
I don’t think adsense is dead yet, but it is definitely on the decline. Ask almost any publisher of a site, and they will tell you their earnings are down, or that they had to generate 50% more sites just to get the same amount of earnings.
I just would not put all of my marbles in Google Adsense for paying my bills about right now.
