Windows Vista Keeps Restarting
Problem - Windows Vista Keeps Restarting
By Michael Baker
The other day I had a problem: Windows Vista keeps restarting. I was not sure why, but it kept doing it. It was happening right after the wireless device would start up, so I figured that was where the trouble was at. But I could not get there fast enough before it would restart all over. I watched it run in a loop of restarting itself for about 30 minutes, with me never touching it. But, then I noticed one thing that makes Windows Vista keeps restarting.
The computer I was working on needed a complete reinstall of Windows Vista. I think it was one of those things were someone knows just enough to get to certain areas, but not enough to know what to fix. This thing was a mess. Anyway, after I reinstalled Windows Vista, the restart kept just restarting. Like I said earlier, I thought it might have been the wireless device, although I was not sure why that would be causing it. But then I noticed something at the bottom.
A program, called FBISM.EXE kept trying to launch. And you had to be quick to see it, because it would only flash for a second at the bottom of the screen. Then it would start the restart process. After a little research, I realized this file does not need to be launched on a startup. So, all you need to do now is disable it before it restarts again.
Here is how to disable the program:
- Once the computer is up and running, go to Start > type in msconfig in the space and press enter.
- popup window will appear > go to the tab that says “start up”
- In this tab, look for the FBISM.EXE file, and uncheck the box.
- Then click apply.
- Then restart the computer.
This will not launch the program on start up and should fix the restarting. But, there are still registry errors left behind because of this situation. You should download a registry repair software and fix the rest of the errors on the computer. From a clean Windows Vista install, I found 128 errors in the registry files. But, now they are gone.
Just follow the above steps to stop the problem of Windows Vista keeps restarting, and then use a registry repair software to fix the rest of the errors. This will keep your need operating system funning smoothly.
