Alexa Rankings Still Matter

Category: Page Rank, Search Engines, Website Traffic

For those of you out there who think Alexa rankings are old, not effective, and just a waste of time, you might want to rethink that theory. Truth of the matter is Alexa is still one of the statistics out there that evaluates your website traffic, which in turn evaluates your website. Obviously, PageRank (PR) is the other one.

If you are looking for ways to monetize your website or your blog, then you need to look at your Alexa ranking. Sure, it is not 100% effective, but it is a sampling of the internet users. Also, I know this number can be manipulated a bit, but still, other advertising places just your site by this. So, go with the system.

When I first started my blog, and was attempting to monetize it, I could not except by using Adsense. I like to have other revenues coming in to my blog, so I went looking for more. Most of the other places look at PR and Alexa rankings. So for the last 3-4 months, I have been working hard on my blog. Right now, I have a PR2 and Alexa of 289,000. Because of this, I make about $20-$30 per day right now on the blog. I am very proud of this, and this number does not include any Adsense. I just added the 125 x 125 adsense block back in the sidebar to see if this will help add a little additional income.

So how do you get the PR up and the Alexa down (which is good in this case)?

Write, write, write, and then write more. You need to be writing all the time. You need to write on specific keyword phrases, which you can read more about in my ebook The Social SEO Guide. See, if you write a topic about a specific keyword, then you can get front page Google listings. If you are on the front page, then there will be that much more traffic. If there is more traffic, then there is a better chance these people have the Alexa toolbar. If they do, the the Alexa ranking will go down.

If you content is good enough, then other sites will link to you, which will raise the PR of the site. I think the key thing to remember here is to write, and write good quality stuff. It takes time, so just stick with it and keep charging ahead. You will get there.
