Squidoo 101
Since I have seen many questions out there on how to set up a (profitable) squidoo site, I thought I would put together a step by step guide on how to set up squidoo. This is 100% free to do, and can be done in less than an hour (if you are new), and much faster if you are already internet marketing.
If you follow these steps below, you will have a nice looking squidoo website, and should start receiving internet traffic in 1-2 weeks, and then some sales after that. Once you see what works, then you just do it all over again for another item. Let’s get going!!
OPTIONAL: First off, if you are not using Firefox as your browser, then you should be. You will have multiple windows open doing this. You can download firefox below in the left hand column.
- First decide on something you want to sell. Yes, sell. There are certain items and topics people only want information on. They are not looking to buy anything. You need a website selling something. Just pick a large topic for now, like NASCAR, Health, Coffee, whatever.
- OK, now you have a large overall topic. You need to narrow this down to a “niche” group of consumers looking to buy specific products. To find out what people are looking for, you can use the following place:
- In the upper left hand corner, type in your topic and click on GO
- You now will have a list of items relating to your topic in the right hand side.Scroll down through this list and find something product specific that you think will sell. You need to be around the numbers of 200-300 for searches. Any higher and you have too much competition.
- From my original topic, lets say I picked Jeff Gordan (Go #24). If I type this phrase into the box and click go, I have a bunch of results. Stuff like Jeff Gordan pictures is not a good topic. But Jeff Gordan Diecast is!! People looking for diecasts are looking to buy. This will sell.
- You now have a topic. Go to squidoo and setup your site.
- After you get registered at Squidoo, login to your account, and click on “Make A Lens”.
- At Step #1, it will ask you what your lens is about. Put in the title the exact phrase of the product you are selling. In my example, I would put”Jeff Gordan Diecasts”. You can spice it up a bit, but it needs to have the exact product words in there at least.
- At Step #2, click on the bottom radio button, which says just do your own thing.
- At Step#3, do the following
- Lens Title: Ensure you have your keyword or product phrase in the title.
- Pick Your URL: You want part, if not all, of the product name in there. For my example, I could choose any of the following:
- /jeffgordondiecast
- /jeff-gordon-diecast
- /jeff_gordon_diecast
- anything like these will work. People will most likely not be typing the URL address to get to your site. They will find it through Google, Yahoo, and MSN while searching for something.
- Category: Pick an appropriate category
- Rated: Choose G rated
- At Step #4, you get to choose 4 keywords your site is about. The first keyword is the main one, which needs to be the exact phrase of your product. The next 3 are figured by going back to the Keyword and Product Suggestions and typing in your keyword or product phrase. This will now give you even more targeted, or specific results. Mine look like this:
117 jeff gordon diecast car 49 diecast etc gordon jeff rare richs 30 jeff gordon nascar diecast car - Pick the top 3 search terms and these will be your next 3 items.
- Click “Done”. You now have a basic Squidoo site setup
